Sebastian fought hard, but his body just gave out on him. He was turned into BARC when he was just a few days old.

Sebastian had a foster who did the best she could for him, he was fed, warm and received the veterinary care he needed. This Tribute is also for all those babies who did not make it alone and cold without ever knowing the warm and loving touch of a human.

In Memory of Theo,

He never found his forever home, but thanks to his foster mom, he had a home, enough to eat and was safe and warm.

Our Deepest Sympathy to Anna Marie and her kids Dylan and Shane, We know how much you miss Cruiser and Casey and that was more than anyone should have to bare in one weekend.

They remain in our hearts forever.

A directed donation was made in Cruiser's and Casey's memory by Connie Peacock

We lost Cruiser on Friday after his brave fight with kidney failure. He was my first litter of foster kittens in April 1994. Cruiser was very social and a favorite of the staff at the vet.

Casey was a shock- still trying to get a handle on it. Returned after 5 yrs, he became part of our family. He was my shadow- whether I moved 2 feet or to another room- he had to be touching me. He was an older fella, we guess about 14 and he had some issues with back arthritis and early stages of kidney failure. He had a seizure Saturday evening and we found out he was in liver failure, most likely from cancer. I was not prepared, but did what was best for him. I miss both of my old guys.

For my Isabel

My beloved dog Isabel passed away. For sixteen years she was my constant and faithful companion. She stayed home patiently waiting for me while I was always away, working to save other dogs and cats. She never complained. She waited for the pat on her head and for me to talk to her, sometimes I was too tired to do much but she never complained. How I wish I could turn back time and scratch her longer and talk to her more. The pain of her passing has at times been unbearable.
With Isabel, my happy heart has become one that is broken. I will always love her and miss her and there is no other dog that could ever replace her. My Isabel, My Izzy B, My busy Bee, she was the smartest dog in the world . She ruled the roost and all dogs knew not to push her too far and they showed her a great deal of respect. That respect lasted until the day she passed away. She kept them in line for me. I miss her and wish she was still here.

In Loving Memory of Old Fella, My treasure I found discarded on the side of the road. He was such a good boy and for 5 years he had a warm house, a full stomach and a soft bed to call all his own. He repaid me a thousand fold for stopping that day and picking him up. I hope there is a puperoni tree growing at the Rainbow Bridge. A donation was made in his memory to be used for those pets that find themselves in a predicament like Old Fella's at the time he was rescued.

In Loving Memory of Rupert

TRIBUTE TO RUPERT
By Cathy Oliver

Rupert’s amazing story began with a kind lady named Joelle’s finding a dirty, matted, flea-infested, and apparently dead cat on her driveway. She covered him with a towel and went inside to prepare to bury him. When she emerged, the towel remained, but the “dead” cat had disappeared. Two doors down she saw a woman crouched over this same cat.
Maria had been driving down the adjacent busy street when she saw a cat staggering and circling in the opposite lane. She swerved to block oncoming traffic and jumped out to rescue him. Maria and Joelle took him to a vet, who found him too weak to stand, unresponsive, hypothermic, 10-12% dehydrated, weighing 4½ pounds. They considered euthanasia but decided to find his owner. The vet administered fluids, syringe-fed him, and placed him on a heating pad. Three people answered Joelle’s posting, but he wasn’t theirs.
Meanwhile, he responded to the vet’s therapeutic regimen; by the end of the day, he’d perked up considerably. Routine tests and bloodwork revealed that he was amazingly healthy except for anemia, early kidney disease, a heart murmur, and an oral infection! After five days, he’d gained weight and was eating well and walking. His purring and “making biscuits” captured the staff’s hearts.
Maria realized that she needed to find him a home. I received an email that this fluffy 14-year-old orange tabby needed “a companion for his last days, weeks, or months.” I prefer having only two cats but felt prompted to adopt him. I fell in love with him despite his obviously being a special-needs kitty with a wobbly walk and dilated pupils.
The vet scanned for a microchip and found his owner, who lived six houses from Joelle. He was declawed and partially blind, but she’d “cracked the garage door to give him some fresh air.” She never retrieved him.
I adopted this frail hospice patient and named him Rupert. (Graciously, the vet used the Stray Fund to “comp” all his expenses.) Five nights later, he started circling and disorientedly bumping into things. He’d probably had a seizure and became semi-comatose again. I was prepared to euthanize him, but his loud “meow” awakened me at 6:15 am to announce he wanted his breakfast! He’d revived from the “almost-dead” for a second time!
Rupert ravenously ate two small cans of food daily but, after six weeks, still weighed 6 ½ pounds. Ultrasound showed possible bladder or intestinal cancer or IBD. Over the next six weeks, his appetite slowly waned until one morning he wouldn’t eat. By afternoon he’d worsened and become unresponsive. Bloodwork revealed that his kidney failure had progressed. The vet suspected bladder, intestinal, or metastatic brain cancer. He had another seizure and died at my fingertips.
Rupert was easy to tend because, loving his bed and heating pad, he mostly slept. He’d wake up when he heard dinner served and began to sit up in bed to anticipate breakfast. Once he even batted out treats from a Go-Cat-Go ball! I tried to give him maximum lap time to compensate for his previous owner’s neglect. He adored being brushed and often purred and snuggled in my lap. However, he’d growl ferociously at my two cats. Imagine how he’d roared to scare away cats, raccoons, and possums that had entered the garage to eat his food!
Sweet, docile Rupert blessed me every day of our three months together, and he deserved all of the warmth, security, nurturing, and happiness that he received under my doting care. I’m positive that Joelle, Maria, the vet staff, and I were strategically placed in Rupert’s life because we believe that even elderly strays are worthy of our unconditional love.

In Loving memory of Oreo, my beloved schnauzer mix. You are in my heart forever.

Megg and family

Ode to OREO December 26, 1996 – December 4, 2008 We had one thing in common, me and my pup: Neither of us ever grew up. With her floppy ears and always wanting to play She was like a puppy ‘til her very last day. She would sit in the window so she could see On the back of the couch, waiting for me.

But this is not a tale of woe It’s about a joy named Oreo.

 Not an Angel**
The young pup and the older dog lay on shaded sweet grass watching the reunions. Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes a whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be greeted by their loving pets and cross the bridge together.
The young pup playfully nipped at the older one. "Look! Something wonderful is happening!" The older dog stood up and barked, "Quickly. Get over to the path."
"But that's not my owner," whined the pup, but he did as he was told. Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white walked on the path toward the bridge. After the glowing figure passed each animal, that animal bowed it's head in love and respect. The figure finally approached the bridge, and was met by a menagerie of joyous animals. Together, they all walked over the bridge and disappeared.
The young pup was still in awe. "Was that an angel?" he whispered.
"No, son." The older dog replied. "That was more than an angel. That was a person who worked rescue."
